Dear Friends,

We praise the Lord for the 20 years we have had working together with the Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission in Northeast Brazil. We are humbled to be used of God to have seen many come to Christ and see them grow in their faith. For the last several years we have been working in the church planting ministry in Fortaleza. We thank the Lord for Fountain of Life Bible Baptist Church and Pastor Johnny Torres. What a joy it has been to have a part in these lives and to see the work continuing on in good hands. Please continue to pray for Pastor Johnny and the church family we leave behind. We plan to stay connected to this ministry, as we take short term mission teams back there from time to time.

We have resigned from BGFM and accepted the position of Director of South American Ministries with Wordless Ministries Foundation and are very excited about this open door. We truly believe God has directed us in this decision and look forward to how He will use us for His glory. Wordless Ministries Foundation is a ministry based upon the colored wordless book theme. One target of this ministry is into hundreds of Christian schools and colleges in the United States. WMF will build relationships and strive to impact teens and adults by engaging them in the ministry of missions on short term teams. Please pray for us during these transitions times.

Short term missions is a part of God’s strategy for missions today as He is using mission trips to wake up and involve American believers in His Great Commission. We have loved the teams that have been part of our ministries in the past years and are thrilled God is allowing us to impact lives in this way. Short term missions is a life changing experience. While the goal may be to give, in the end the giver becomes the receiver.

Our ministry base will be in North Carolina, where we will be organizing and directing short-term discipleship mission trips into Brazil as well as other areas of South America. There is an urgent need to engage all believers, in one way or another in the Great Commission found in Matthew 28. Our prayerful desire is to see God raise up more full-time missionaries and to see the “casual” Christian in the USA view missions in a whole new way, realizing that all believers have a part in missions wherever God has placed them. We will still be full-time missionaries, just based in the USA. Although we are still working on the new web site, you can check it at: www.wordlessministries.org where you can see and read more about Wordless Ministries!

Life Builders

A nourishing meal, a hot shower, clean clothes, toiletries, and a warm bed are some of the services offered to men who have nowhere else to go. The men are encouraged to stay for at least ninety days and to try to turn their lives around to become successful and employable citizens. While here at the Mission, the men receive counseling and attend Bible studies and chapel services. The Mission’s work therapy program provides meaningful work in the warehouse, thrift stores, repair shop, around the Mission, and on the trucks. Men who come to the Mission with no hope of a bright future receive the opportunity to be productive and restore their dignity and self-esteem. Many residents come to the Mission with no personal identification. The staff of the Mission helps residents obtain a driver’s license, a NC identification card, social security card, or a criminal background check, depending on their need.  Some of the classes the men attend include Overcomers in Christ, Anger Management, Crossroads, Life Skills, and Financial Management.

Transformers

The Transformers program is a 12-month recovery program which consists of Biblical counseling, Bible study classes, local church attendance, case management, medical assistance, health training, adult education, life skills training, financial planning, and career development.  The Program is divided into four phases, including Introduction, Transformation, Application, and Graduation.  The Program is task, not time oriented.  Before moving to the next phase, residents must complete all the requirements of each phase and be evaluated by their counselor.  Upon completion of Transformers, residents will have secured and maintained permanent housing and employment and will be equipped with the tools to be productive members of society.

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye Transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)

Prayer Letter – Living Letters Prison Ministry   Leave a comment

Faithful Friends & Supporters,

Entering into our twenty-first year of LLPM, I can only stand amazed at all of the workings of God in our ministry. Brother Joe Hendricks is with us full-time now and doing a wonderful job helping us to get into the North Carolina prisons.  He has a team of regular helpers and, with Brother Jason Kersh, myself and our team in South Carolina, there are more than a dozen men preaching and reaching others with the Gospel because of your faithfulness and prayers.

We are currently working in 2 state prisons in SC (Livesay C.I. & Tyger River C.I.). In NC, we are working in 3 state prisons (Lincoln C.C, Wilkes C.C. & Catawba C.C.), 2 county detention centers and are working on getting into another prison in NC (Gaston Correctional Center) and 1 Juvenile Detention Center in NC (Gaston D.C.) We have a Revival coming up at Lincoln C.C. on July 28-30th. There have been over 30 professions of faith made this year so far

We are waiting for clearance to go into Gaston County Juvenile Center right now. When we get it we will be able to reach teenage boys and girls with the life-changing truth of God’s Word.

Also, we are praying with another gentleman about his going full-time with LLPM, he is helping now, but praying for the Lord’s direction concerning His will for ministry. Should the Lord lead in that direction he will be of great help to us, as he is African-American and many of the men who will not come out for our services will come to his, and I don’t say that in a negative way, but it is a cultural thing with some.

Pray also for the Lord to strengthen our bodies for the work that He has called us to do. I am finding out that the farther you get past sixty, the more aches, pains, and ailments you have, but looking back to the day the Lord saved me – I wouldn’t change a thing except to try to live closer and do more for Him for what He did for me. I’ll be sixty-six in a few days and can find no fault with Him.

If any of you would like for Ellen and I to come a give a report, we would be happy to do it. We thank you for your faithfulness and your generosity over all of these years. Without it multitudes would have not heard the Word and had the chance to know the joy and peace that comes through a true personal relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ. One day soon, Heaven itself will reveal the fruits of our efforts together. We love you and pray for you – please pray for us.

If you would be interested in meeting Brother Kersh or Brother Hendricks and allowing them to share their burden, I know that you would be blessed. Without Brother Kersh’s assistance over the years, this old body would have burned out long ago. And if the time does come time for me to step aside or do something else, Brother Kersh will not miss a lick in carrying on this work and continuing its growth. He was God’s answer to my prayers years ago for a man to continue what had been started beyond the length of my days.
